Junior Data Scientist - Generative AI and Japanese Language

This position is responsible for developing, testing, and evaluating Generative AI and Large Language Model applications that generate accurate, natural, and culturally appropriate Japanese-language outputs. The role will collaborate with an English-speaking technical team.

Education

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Statistics, or a relevant field.
• College-level coursework in Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, or related subjects is required.

Experience

* 0-2 years; recent graduates with relevant coursework, academic projects, or internships are encouraged to apply.

Mandatory skills

• Native Japanese speaker, or equivalent native-level proficiency, with excellent speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
• Fluent professional English, with strong speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
• Ability to assess Japanese AI-generated content for linguistic accuracy, naturalness, tone, context, and cultural appropriateness.
• Foundational knowledge of Data Science, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Large Language Models.
• Programming experience in Python and familiarity with common data analysis libraries.
• Understanding of prompt design, structured testing, and qualitative and quantitative evaluation of LLM outputs.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to document experiments and communicate technical findings clearly in English.
• Willingness to learn and contribute to cutting-edge Generative AI technologies.

Nice to have skills

• Hands-on experience with Generative AI platforms or models such as OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, or open-source LLMs.
• Exposure to Japanese NLP, localization, translation quality evaluation, data annotation, or linguistic quality assurance.
• Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, vector databases, or agentic AI frameworks.
• Knowledge of PyTorch or TensorFlow, REST APIs, Git, and basic software development practices.
• Experience creating or evaluating Japanese-language datasets, prompts, benchmarks, or automated test cases.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
